Time to spark up on battery disposal plan

AUSTRALIA’S back battery recycling scheme has pulled back the curtain on the lack of education, on how to properly and safely dispose of batteries.
Two simple safety measures every Australian should do for fire prevention and censure child safety is to tape used batteries with clear sticky tape and never dispose of used batteries in general waste and recycling bins.
Research released by B-cycle last week found that 55 per cent of Australians are still disposing of batteries incorrectly, with only 12 per cent of people immediately taping used exposed terminals when replacing a used household battery.
Additionally, 79 per cent of Australians are not aware of this crucial safety measure. Button batteries, used in many household items, pose a number safety risks on Australians, as they can have a devastating impact when ingested or inserted by children, or not disposed of appropriately.
