Streetscape project brings modern touch to hinterland heritage town

WORK is set to begin on the next phase of streetscape enhancements for Cribb Street, Landsborough.
With a primary focus on enhancing and revitalising the historic main street, the community-driven planned improvements are a continuation of the multi-stage Landsborough Placemaking Master Plan, initially approved by Sunshine Coast Council in January 2020.
The first stage of the Cribb Street streetscape project was finished in 2021, and with additional State Government funding, the council is now initiating work on the second and final stage.
Sunshine Coast Council’s placemaking team has collaborated extensively with the Landsborough community over several years to formulate a comprehensive master plan
Division 1 Councillor, Rick Baberowski, said the streetscape project aims to establish a more robust, functional destination and a beautiful town centre.
“This next stage of the streetscape project will concentrate on the park/station side of Cribb Street, providing an enhanced central gathering space for the community to unite,” he said.
“The park enhancements will complement and enhance the works already accomplished in the first stage of the streetscape project, adding more amenities and functionality to the main street as a space for locals to enjoy, commuters to navigate efficiently, and visitors to explore.”
Noteworthy features of the new area comprise shelters and seating, a play space, a lawn area for community events, additional shade trees, and creative lighting elements to build on the distinctive night-time lighting of the township.
Additionally, the council plans to install an expanded heritage trail in collaboration with the community. Landsborough Museum’s Hayley Rowan said the project would help celebrate the town’s rich cultural heritage through the diverse design elements of the streetscape project.
She highlighted the museum’s excitement about the expansion of the heritage trail. The completion of Stage 2 is anticipated in mid-2024.
