Trade trash for treasure at the Seaside Scavenge

ARE you up for a morning of cleaning up your local environment, winning some awesome prizes and grooving to some funky live tunes?
If this sounds like your thing, join local group Visionary Ocean Warriors who are organising a free community clean-up, clothes swap and waste education event called Spring into Scavenge on Saturday, June 26 from 8am-12noon.

The scavenge involves a waterway clean-up and clothes swap where litter collected becomes currency to buy quality pre-loved clothes, books and bric-a-brac donated by the local community.
For every piece of litter collected by participants, they will be rewarded with trash tokens to use in the pop-up market.
Participants will learn how to separate and catalogue rubbish to capture data for the Tangaroa Blue Australian Marine Debris Initiative.

Younger participants will be able to participate in the Waste2Resource kid’s education game around recycling, and Visionary Ocean Warriors invites everyone to attend a free no-sew bag station, up-cycling a bag from an old t-shirt.
There will be performances by local musicians, including local duo Frank & Louis, and Isaiah Hing, who will keep participants entertained with funky tunes throughout the morning.

Beerwah local Poppy Ives, who is the scavenge coordinator and founder of Visionary Ocean Warriors, said participating in the Spring into Scavenge program has given her extra confidence and knowledge to reach out to the local community on the issues of marine debris.
“It is a fun way to engage the community in beach clean ups,” Poppy said.
The event is part of the month-long celebrations for World Environment Day and is a plastic-free event, so don’t forget to bring your own water bottle and keep cup.

Community members can register for the Seaside Scavenge Caloundra via Eventbrite, a free ticketing registration process.
