Upgrades to Witta’s mobile tower

Telstra is advising Witta residents to expect delays to their mobile coverage from January 29 to February 11, as the telco is adding infrastructure to the town’s mobile base station, to improve connectivity.

Scheduled works will temporarily impact mobile coverage for all Telstra customers in the area during daylight hours.

Landline services, NBN, and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted, and 000 calls when the Telstra site is off air, will be diverted to any working mobile network to connect the call.

Telstra acting regional general manager, Scott Mullaly, said crews need to work during daylight hours due to safety, but will only switch off the site when necessary and will turn it back on as soon as possible.

“Where possible we will just be switching off the parts of the tower we are working on, leaving the rest operational,” he said.

“While coverage and capacity will decline during this time, we want to keep the amount of time the site is off air to an absolute minimum.”

The additional infrastructure will bring better 4G mobile coverage and introduce 5G mobile coverage to the community.
