2022 marks 100 years since the formation of the Maleny Show Society, which is looking forward to celebrating this important milestone.
Members are particularly looking forward to shining a light on the original show society members and are keen to connect with their family members who may have photos and stories from that time to share.
They will also be focusing on recognising, acknowledging and sharing the stories of the hard work and contribution that many individuals are still making to the society today.
In preparation, the Maleny Show Society committee is encouraging nominations for honorary life memberships. Throughout 2021 this honour was awarded to Bill Hankinson, Monica and Fraser Skerman, Trevor Carbery, and in December Betty and George Diefenbach were also recognised for their service.
As the Maleny Show Society’s long-time media partner, GC&M News looks forward to showcasing some of the society’s wonderful stories in the lead up to this year’s show on May 27-28, and we are kicking this off in this edition.
The show society committee is currently looking at several ways of recording the society’s history and possibly compiling a book. The society is particularly interested in funny anecdotes and stories from locals about their family’s involvement and experience with the show over the years.
Show society secretary Lois White is keen to make contact with descendants of the society’s original and early members as well as past members who may no longer live in the area.
