Beegee’s president is May’s volunteer of the month

THE May ‘volunteer of the month’ of the Football Queensland Sunshine Coast division was announced recently, and the honour went to the club’s very own Shaun De Courcy.

Shaun is the Beerwah Glasshouse United Football Club’s president and has been volunteering for the Club for 30 years. He has been involved in the sport for 49 years.

He was humbled with the recognition but said he does not do the volunteering for the praise.

“It was a little bit embarrassing because you know we don’t do the work for recognition,” he said.

“We do the work for the love of the game to hopefully encourage more people to play the game… but it was a little bit special.”

Throughout his volunteering career at the club – better known as the BeeGee’s – he has had various roles including the coach of many junior and senior teams, being the junior vice president and the vice president.

“I’ve done quite a lot of different roles within the club, I’m very lucky to have a strong executive team and committee members alongside me doing the best we can for the club,” he said.

The love he has for the game is clear, and his passion is fuelled by his team around him and to inspire the future generations in football.

“It’s a game that I love, and I’m very passionate about it and I just like to do what I can to hopefully instil the same love of the game I have to the next young breed of players coming through our club,” he said.
