Bulk billing numbers fall in Australia

A recent report released by Cleanbill has found 1.2 million Australians have avoided seeing a GP in the last financial year due to cost of living pressures.

In Queensland, Cleanbill’s report found clinics are 9.4 per cent less likely to offer bulk billing to all adult patients, while the average cost of a GP appointment has gone up to $41.13.

The RACGP’s Health of the Nation report was released late last year as well, finding GPs bulkbilling all their patients halved in just one year.

Federal member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, said local families are currently struggling to pay bills, let alone visit GPs for their health concerns.

“With our hospitals already overrun and facing serious ramping issues, the last thing we need in Fisher is for this health crisis to be made worse because patients cannot afford to see their GP,” he said.
