Landsborough Pantry bows out

By Kirra Livingstone

THE much loved Landsborough Free Pantry has been forced to close, as the current owner is moving from the area with no one taking it over.
Landsborough Free Pantry owner Shirley King started the service in 2021, filling a gap in the community to provide anonymous support to people who need to access free food, personal items and books. Shortly after the pantry began, Beerwah artist Katrina Odgers volunteered to paint the previously white fridge to make it more eyecatching and easier to identify.
Shirley has received a whirlwind of support over the years, with many people donating goods to keep the pantry running.
Throughout the years, the pantry has helped many people get through tough times.
In a Facebook post announcing the closure, Shirley thanked the community for their support.
“It is a shame as there is someone using the pantry everyday now in these harsh financial times,” she said.
The pantry closed on April 13, 2024.
