Maleny goes space age solar

THE world’s first solar electric vehicles are coming to hinterland.

Hot off the back of Maleny’s vie for the title of electric car-charging capital of Australia, Andrew McLean is going a step further after reserving the world’s first solar electric vehicle.

Andrew recently placed a deposit on an Aptera SEV vehicle, with it legally classified as a motorcycle.

Aptera – a Californian start-up – says the motorcycle can travel up to 1600kms per charge depending on the model.

They also allow owners of the vehicle to reduce their carbon footprints by 6350kg a year, while being able to go from zero to 100kms in 3.5 seconds.

“Progress is inevitable and progress that allows you to get around with less damage to the ecosystem and free from the sun- who wouldn’t want that,” Andrew said.

Buyers will have to be patient with the manufacturer setting a 2024 delivery date.
