It’s hard to think of joyful things
When grief is sharing our sufferings
The joy we had at times past
We thought they would ever last.
For those who are left behind
Alone with sadness, never mind
They say that sadness will pass away
It might for some, another day.
Alone with thoughts you have bared
Alone with dreams you often shared
But now no one for you to care
You are alone with your grief to bare.
What is this grief that tortures us
Is it alone from those we trust
Or could it be some other fact
That sets our minds on another track.
Our memories see what could have been
The helpful acts we should have seen
The care not given when needed
The cry for help, not headed.
Will the sadness ever leave us
Or will it always haunt us
Only time will tell
And only time will break the spell.
