The Jellyman’s Daughter Show Review

By Kirra Livingstone

THE Jellyman’s Daughter performed at the 2022/2023 Woodford Folk Festival over six days, and Glasshouse Country and Maleny News watched their day three performance on the Luna Stage.

This Scottish band started out as a duo, however since they released their first self titled album in 2014, the ensemble has expanded, and now have a banjo player, bass player and drummer.

The new and improved band have recorded their first album as a group set to be released in 2023.

Although their singer Emily Kelly had laryngitis, she promised the crowd she was still going to perform the best as she could on their third tour in Australia, even if she struggled.

Despite her illness throughout the set, she sang beautifully only struggling slightly during a cover, then played their instrumental, The Shoogly Peg, as a time for Emily to rest her voice.

The instrumental side of The Jellyman’s Daughter’s performance was soulful and powerful, and really made you feel apart of the band, with their musical passion obvious to the crowd.

The folk band captured the true essence of what the Woodford Folk Festival is all about, allowing underground talent of all different genres, to shine on stage while entertaining the local community offering them something new.
