Woodford Folk Festival back for its 35th year

By Kirra Livingstone

THE Woodford Folk festival is back following a nearly three-year absence, with event organisers praising the overwhelming support they’ve received in bringing it back.

Woodford Folk Festival Director Bill Hauritz highlighted that without the cash injections from external sources such as the Queensland Government, the festival wouldn’t be where it is now.

“The amount of funding we were able to achieve from the government was critical,” said Mr Hauritz.

“Innovation over the years is also key to the festival’s success; we do it for the artists, the arts, folklore and the ideas around all of the things we can do to be innovative.

“We’ve built a beautiful community, we have 400 people were here for a month building the site, it’s made by the people, by the community.”

Queensland Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch welcomed the return of the festival and said the success of its 35th year proves that the arts in Australia are well and truly thriving once more.

“The Queensland Government are very proud to support this festival in multiple ways: one million dollars every year for 4 years for the sustainability of the festival,” she said.

“I want to acknowledge Bill and Amanda and the whole team, all the volunteers who commit so much time to this festival and the amazing adaptations they put in place during COVID…”

With a few days left of the event, there are still non-camping tickets available to purchase on the Woodford Folk Festival’s website.
