Bulldogs Old Girls day celebrated

THE Beerwah Bulldogs have celebrated the tenth anniversary of their Bassett Barks Open Women’s team, with players enjoying a win and milestones of their own.

On their Old Girls Day celebrating ten years for their women’s team, in the Women in League round as well, they came away with a comfortable 14-6 win against the Noosa Pirates.

Coach Rod Kerr, who was also recognised on the night, said it was a hard game against the Pirates, and with this win, they have cemented their place in the finals in a few rounds time.

“What we said at half time is we just needed to lift the intensity, which is what we did, we put on a few more shots which was good, so it was a tough game, and we got away with the win,” he said.

However, two of their long term players had their own milestones for the game, with Amy Bock playing her 86th club game; her 100th game including representative matches.

Courtney Lockwood also reached her 109th game for the club and the first women doggies’ player to reach 100 games at the Bulldogs, not including her representative matches.

Amy spoke about the importance of the day for the team as a whole and her achievement.

“Ten years at Beerwah here, and during women in league round in general, it’s not just about what we do on the field, it’s the ladies all around the club that do all sorts of roles,” she said.

“It’s nice to be able to recognise them in Women in League round on a day like this with the old girls.

“I’ve had a lot of fun here at the club, I’ve met lots of good people, it’s nice to be recognised like this, totally unnecessary, there’s a lot of people around who do a lot of work for us to play footy.”
