IN a bid to break through the challenges of getting the very best possible fights for his stable of professional fighters, Hinterland Boxing owner Steve Pitt has taken matters into his own hands.
Frustrated by the lack of opportunities and recognition for his talented fighters, Pitt has ventured into the realm of promotions with his new business, P4P Promotions.
The primary focus of P4P Promotions is to expedite the careers of local boxers, with a special emphasis on propelling Dana ‘Deadly’ Coolwell to a world title in 2024.
Pitt, alongside Coolwell (pictured), aims to create a platform that showcases the talents of Sunshine Coast boxers.
The inaugural fight card, scheduled for March 23, will feature an intense battle between Coolwell and Fernando Tagpuno Jr for the IBO Inter-Continental Feather title.
Notably, this event marks the first world title fight on the Sunshine Coast and the first-ever women’s world title in the region.
Tywarna Campbell and Brisbane-born Deanha Hobbs will face off for the WIBA World Super Feather title in the main event.
Pitt’s decision to step into the role of promoter stems from the challenges of relying on outside parties.
Rather than letting opportunities slip, Steve decided to take control of the narrative.
Looking ahead, Pitt’s long-term goal is to bring the first men’s world title to the Sunshine Coast, establishing the region as a boxing hub, particularly in anticipation of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Steve’s long term goal is to bring the first men’s world title to the Sunshine Coast, to establish the region as a hub for boxing, ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. “Our future long term goals is to help get a world title here for Dana, so we want to put it on ourselves, we are in talks with people and we believe we’ve got the product and the infrastructure here on the Sunshine Coast to do it,” Steve said.
“We think by doing so we’ll be able to show the Sunshine Coast is a hub for world sporting events and leading into the 2032 Olympics I think that’s a step in the right direction.
“We’ve got some good connections and networks and as a result of that Dana’s fanbase has been growing and growing exponentially especially in this region.”
Pitt added there will be a plethora of opportunities for domestic and international fights with this new endeavour.
“If we win this world title for Dana, depending on what happens after that and where we sit, we will continue our already open negotiations with boxers over in America,” he said.
In addition to international aspirations, Pitt envisions P4P Promotions as a catalyst for positive change in the community.
He plans to launch a youth boxing program within his boxing club, with Coolwell as the ambassador.
Drawing from his experience in the criminal justice system, Steve aims to provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth to find a path to success.
“We want to create a youth program for young people in the community,” he said.
“It is something that Dana and I are really passionate about, for both indigenous and non-Indigenous kids to break the cycle.”
“If one in five kids can go back into the community, that in itself would be an achievement.”
