Glasshouse police blitz nabs 27

SUNSHINE Coast District Tactical Crime Squad has charged 27 people with 35 offences following a road safety blitz on the Bruce Highway through the Glass House Mountains on Wednesday, December 6.
Officers conducted 794 roadside breath tests, 45 roadside drug tests and issued 25 traffic in-fringement notices (TINs) as part of Operation Lasso.
Of this, five drivers were drink drivers and 11 drivers were driving under the influence of drugs.
A 47-year-old Caloundra West woman was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drugs and one count each of possess utensils, relevant substances and anything used in the commission of crime.
Sunshine Coast Superintendent Craig Hawkins said motorists could expect “a heavy police presence on highways and roads, maintaining a highly visible presence for motorists”.
“Officers will be targeting drivers that engage in risk-taking behaviours such as drink and drug driving, speeding, mobile phone usage (and) failure to wear a seatbelt.”
