Horizon Festival Hinterland Highlights 2022

Horizon Festival is just weeks away, kicking off on August 26, bringing with it 10 days and nights of music, theatre, visual arts and family experiences.

The program is packed with more than 50 free and ticketed events across 25 locations with a Hinterland program as diverse as the festival itself.

Here’s a taste of some of the hinterland events set to showcase:

On the doorstep

27 August: Country is Calling

Munnimbah-dja, Maleny

This visual art exhibition celebrates the work and stories of the Jinibara people. Curated by prominent Jinibara artist Jason Murphy, the exhibition explores the intricate connection between people and place.

September 3: Songs of Gaia,

Glass House Mountains

This poignant world premiere cross-cultural music performance is performed as the sun sets over Mount Tibrogargan. Ensemble Beyond Borders explore new ways of creating music that reflects the rich cultural diversity of Australia.

Open Air Hinterland

Live music lovers will enjoy this series of live music performances from some of Australia’s most loved musicians including:

September 1: Maleny Community Centre

Join Emily Wurramara and Andrea Kirwin for this intimate live music performance.

September 2: Yirinda – Baroon Pocket Dam

Butchulla Songman Fred Leone and composer/multi-instrumentalist Samuel Pankhurst blend Aboriginal language with contemporary, acoustic, and improvisatory sounds in a sublime mix of the ancient and the contemporary.

Various dates: Listen more not spoken for, Tanawha

A team of Indigenous children in collaboration with Quandamooka artist Libby Harward, their older siblings and Mother Earth, have created a series of listening walks through the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens. These 30-minute walks explore water country, sky county and rock country.
